Coming to a TV set near you is none other than rap superstar, Nicki Minaj. That’s right folks! Deadline reports, Nicki Minaj will be executive producing and appearing in a new scripted comedy series on ABC Family based on her life before the fame.
The show is based in Minaj’s hometown of Queens, NY in the 1990’s and touches on Minaj’s Trinidadian roots, her evolution into “Nicki Minaj”, and her rise to fame. The show is untitled and filming will being in Minaj’s hometown later this year. The show is written by Kate Angelo (Will and Grace, The Bernie Mac Show)
ABC Family’s EVP Programming and Development Karey Burke released this statement on Minaj’s sitcom joining the ABC Family’s line up: “Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches,” Burke said . “Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”
Minaj released this statement to Deadline on her new show: “This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” said Minaj. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
Minaj attended LaGuardia High School in Manhattan and always had dreams of being an actress. She made her first film appearance as a voice role in Ice Age: Continental Drift, then as a co-starring role in The Other Woman and she is also starring in Barbershop 3.
Minaj has proven that she is a force to be reckoned with in this industry. From breaking records, to starring in films with Cameron Diaz and Ice Cube, to now having her very own sitcom it’s clear that Minaj is in it for the long haul and we can’t wait to see what she does next!
