“That Viola Reign Just Won’t Let Up”: Soap Opera Star Disses Viola Davis on Her Emmy Win

The world witnessed history last night when Viola Davis won her award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in ABC’s “How to Get Away With Murder.” We aren’t sure about everyone else, but we definitely shed some tears as Viola opened her acceptance speech with a quote from Harriett Tubman and as she called out Hollywood for not providing roles for black women. She then thanked the team behind “How to Get Away With Murder” for providing her with her role and redefinig what it means to be a black woman. She ended her speech by thanking  her  colleagues, such as, Taraji P. Henson, Kerry Washington, and Gabrielle Union for “taking us over that line.”

Watch and/or read Viola’s Speech below:

“In my mind, I see a line. And over that line, I see green fields, and lovely flowers, and beautiful white women with their arms stretched out to me over that line, but I can’t seem to get there no how. I can’t seem to get over that line.’ That was Harriet Tubman in the 1800s. And let me tell you something. The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity. You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there. So here’s to all the writers, the awesome people… Shonda Rhimes. People who have redefined what it means to be beautiful, to be sexy, to be a leading woman. To be black. And to the Taraji P. Hensons, the Kerry Washingtons, the Halle Berrys, the Nicole Beharis, the Meagan Goods, to Gabrielle Union. Thank you for taking us over that line. Thank you, for the television academy.”

Viola Davis’s 2015 Emmy Acceptance Speech:

While the we smiled, cried, jumped for joy, and congratulated Viola on a well deserved and historical win the “Twitter-verse” was buzzing after catching wind of a fellow actresses unsavory remarks on Davis’s win.

Soap Opera star, Nancy Lee Grahn aka Alexis Cassadine on “General Hospital,” tweeted some rather off-putting comments on Viola Davis’s Emmy win:

Grahn then says:

It gets worse:

Wait there’s more:

Oh boy:

So after Grahn insults Davis by saying she should’ve let Shonda Rhimes write her speech, telling us the Emmys is not the place for “racial opportunity” (I’m assuming her house is better) and that ALL women were belittled by Davis’s speech, then insinuating that Davis opened a vein on stage just to get a reaction, she misses the entire point of Davis referencing Harriett Tubman’s quote during her speech, and lastly she tells Viola that she has never been discriminated against…what does she do??? She apologizes of course:

Grahn may have apologized, but that didn’t stop Twitter from sharing their thoughts on her:

SMH! See we could write all day about the issue with everything Grahn said put we don’t have to because Viola Davis still made history and melanin-rich queens are still winning #BlackGirlMagic
