E! News host, Guiliana Rancic, will no longer be a daily host on the network starting August 10th of this year. Rancid will continue to be a co-host on E!/s Fashion Police and Live From the Red Carpet. Rancic released this statement in regards to her departure:
“For more than a decade, I was fortunate enough to play a role in the success of E! News and will miss my family at the show. This is such a thrilling time for me, and I thank the gang at E! for understanding my desire to embark on this next chapter in my life.”
There has been no official reason behind Rancic’s decision to leave E! News as a host, however there is speculation that Rancic never recovered from the comments she made about actress/singer, Zendaya Coleman’s faux-dreads hairstyle she wore to the 2015 Oscar Awards ceremony.
Rancic made a “joke” on E!’s Fashion Police saying that Coleman’s dreads made her “feel like she smells like patchouli oil or weed.” Rancic’s comments on Coleman’s hairstyle set off an internet firestorm with many people calling Rancic’s comments racist. Her comments even prompted former Fashion Police co-host, Kelly Osbourne, to depart from the show.
We think Rancic’s comments on Zendaya were made out of ignorance to the weight terms like that can hold in reference to a person of color. We do wish Rancic the best in whatever her next ventures may be.
Her replacement is set to be Maria Menounos.
