Mississippi born, LA based model, makeup artist, body positive activist and blogger, Tess Holliday has taken the world by storm. Gaining much success as from modeling for brands such as Domino Dollhouse, Jessica Louise Clothing, and Sealed With a Kiss Designs, Tess has become a martyr for plus size women all over.
Tess’s story of triumph may also be why some many women gravitate to the bodacious diva. She was short, cry and pale and a victim of bullying. Tess still had big dreams of becoming a model and leaving her small town behind. One day she went to a model casting call in Atlanta and as she put it “was not warmly received.” Realizing that she was not as tall as the other models around her, Tess turned to makeup artistry.
Forced to drop out of high school due to severe bullying, Tess earned her GED and moved to Seattle. There she worked on her craft and became a professional makeup artist. Soon she was the lead make up artist, hair stylist, and creative director for numerous fashion shows in Seattle, Washington. In 2010, Tess decided to move to LA, and that became the move of a lifetime.
In LA, Tess became a a full time professional model, and was a finalist for ‘Torrid’s House of Dreams Model Search,’ and she became the face of a show on A&E TV called, ‘Heavy’. Tess has also been featured in Vogue Italia, Inked Magazine, Inked Girls, Bizarre Magazine, Atomic Bombshells (cover), Plus Model Magazine, Volup2., Skorch Magazine (cover), Cats Meow Magazine (cover) Glam Rock Magazine, Drive In Magazine, Rabid Magazine, any many ‘Fatshion’ Blogs. She also most recently was named One of the Top Plus Size Models by Refinery 29, Vogue Italia, and The Huffington Post.
Tess is also the founder of #effyourbeautystandards, a body positivity movement that has garnered much success and participation over the years.
Tess’ story may not differ from many other women like hers, but she did something that many don’t do and that’s keep going through all of the trials and tribulations. Tess is proving that size and beauty do not correlate with one another and having faith in yourself goes a long way.
