Comedian Chris Rock is divorcing his wife of 19-years, Malaak Compton-Rock, because he doesn’t want to stay in a marriage that isn’t fulfilling. Rock has been preparing for his divorce since November.
Rock has also filed for joint custody of his two daughters, and claims that his soon-to-be ex wife is keeping his daughters from him. Compton-Rock denies this claim and issued this statement:
“Malaak is saddened and disappointed that Chris has accused her of keeping their children from him, which he knows is untrue and can be so easily disproved,” her attorney David Aronson said in the statement. “We all know Chris leads a very busy public life while Malaak and their children definitely do not. She hopes the privacy of their children is still as important to Chris as it is to her and that it will be respected. They will always be the main focus of her life.”
Rocks seems to want to keep the divorce as clean as possible and claims to split all of their community property once the divorce is final. However things may get a little rocky once it comes to spousal support.
The pre-nuptial agreement that Rock and his wife signed has expired and that leaves an opportunity for Compton-Rock to be able to request spousal support from her soon-to-be ex husband. Rock may not feel so inclined to agree with that idea because in the divorce documents, he cites that Compton-Rock has the ability to “work and contribute to her own support.”
